Panasonic air conditioning Sydney Supernight 2024

Hi to all you Supercars Fans around the world!

On the weekend of July 19 – 21 2024 the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney Supernight was held. It was round 7 of the 2024 Supercars Championship.

The event was held at Sydney Motorsport Park formerly known as Eastern Creek Raceway.

Sydney Motorsport Park was first opened on the 10 November 1990 however, the main event came along in 1992 when the V8 supercars made their first appearance at the circuit. The venue has been host to events such as motorcycle racing, A1 Grand Prix, Touring cars and Muscle Car Masters.

Just 2 days before this year’s event on July 17th 2024, James Courtney announced that he will be retiring from fulltime Supercars racing at the end of season 2025. He is now 44 years old and has been a full time driver since 2006. If he completes next season he will reach the 20 year milestone in Supercars. That is quite an achievement. 

The pre-race sessions started on the Friday. Results were as follows:

  • Ryan Wood was fastest in Practice 1
  • Cameron Waters was fastest in Qualifying
  • Cameron Waters was fastest in the Top Ten Shootout

In Race 15 Cameron Waters started on pole position with Thomas Randle alongside him.

As they took off Thomas Randle got the jump and led into turn 1 for the first of 51 laps.

As the pack got to turn 2 there was contact between Mark Winterbottom and Macauley Jones. Winterbottom’s car suffered damage and he had to head straight for the pits. Macauley Jones was just a victim in the process but he did manage to keep going.

The top 3 cars were reasonably close to each other. Chaz Mostert started to apply the pressure on his former teammate Cameron Waters in a bid for second place.

It wasn’t long before Chaz Mostert found his opportunity and before turn 7 passed Cameron Waters. Chaz Mostert was now in second but was still 2.079 seconds behind race leader Thomas Randle.

On lap 13 Brodie Kostecki was the first to take his pit stop from 24th place.

As they reached into the 20 something laps Thomas Randle pitted from the lead, followed by Chaz Mostert and then Broc Feeney. While Randle pitted it was Cameron Waters who assumed the lead.

In the middle of the race there were 4 cars yet to still pit. Once they did Chaz Mostert took the race lead. He was followed by Thomas Randle and Anton de Pasquale in third place.

Will Davison showed how eager he was and did the fastest lap of the race, 131.505 seconds.

Chaz Mostert’s experience showed as he defended the lead throughout the rest of the race.

Although he couldn’t fully break away from the pack, Chaz Mostert still managed to cross the finish line 2.6 seconds ahead of Matt Payne. A further 4.5 seconds later Thomas Randle came in to take 3rd place.

In Race 16 Will Davison started on pole position. Alongside him was Chaz Mostert.

As they took off Will Davison got the jump and led into turn 1 for the first of 51 laps. At turn 4 Will Davison ran wide giving Chaz Mostert the opportunity to pounce and get to the front of the field.

At turn 8 Broc Feeney ran extremely wide causing him to drop all the way down to 23rd place. It just didn’t seem to be his weekend.

On the next lap at turn 2 David Reynolds got up the inside of Matt Payne to enter the top 10 spots.

It didn’t last long, and Matt Payne re-took 10th place back.

The positions up front had not changed except for Will Brown who made up 1 spot to hold 4th place.

Chaz Mostert had extended his lead out to 2.3 seconds over Will Davison in P2. Matt Payne unbelievably got into 7th spot and stayed side by side to Anton de Pasquale down the entire straight.

David Reynolds got into a bind and was trying to avoid leaving the track. Unfortunately, he made contact with Ryan Wood. Brodie Kostecki was behind the two and had no chance to avoid giving David Reynolds a helping bump off the track. What a mess, Kostecki and Reynolds were now at the back of the pack. Ryan Wood fell back to 13th place (unlucky).

The first car to pit in this race was Broc Feeney. He returned to the track in 25th place.

Cameron Waters and Anton de Pasquale pitted on lap 25.

There were still 3 cars yet to pit. Once they took their mandatory stops, Chaz Mostert assumed the lead.

Once again Chaz held his place and even clocked the fastest lap of the race,131.302 seconds.

With 9 laps to go car 26 Ritchie Stanaway had a clutch issue causing his wheels to spin whilst hoisted on the air-jacks in the pits. They tried to resolve the issue but in the end chose to send him back out to finish the race and earn the points. A much better option than a DNF (Did Not Finish).

Chaz Mostert kept edging away from the rest of the pack and the front runners became more spread out. Mostert took advantage of the clear track and crossed the finish line 8.3 seconds clear of Cameron Waters in second place. It was another 8.9 seconds back to Will Brown in 3rd place.

It was great weekend for the Walkinshaw Andretti United team and their driver Chaz Mostert winning 2 out of 2 races this weekend. It was his third win in the 2024 Supercars season.

A look at the Driver’s Championship points after this event shows Will Brown still holds the number 1 spot. He leads by 105 points over Chaz Mostert in 2nd. Broc Feeney’s bad weekend moved him down a spot from 2nd to 3rd. Things are getting mighty interesting!

On the Team’s Championship scoreboard Red Bull Ampol Racing still lead by 805 points over Walkinshaw Andretti United.

Beaurepaires Sydney Supernight 2023

Hi to all you Supercars Fans around the world!

On the weekend of 29 – 30 July 2023 was the Beaurepairs Sydney Supernight, the 7th round of this year’s Supercars championship.

The event was held at Sydney Motorsport Park in New South Wales.

Originally named Eastern Creek Raceway, the New South Wales state government approved its development back in 1988 and opened on the 10th of November, 1990. The first Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) race was held in 1993. The ATCC was the previous title before being renamed V8 Supercars in 1997).

This event was a special occasion for me, aside from being in my home town of Sydney it was the first time I have been able to get to any track since 2017. It was a lot of fun and I was glad to finally have wheelchair accessible transport (thanks Dad) and the general threat of COVID gone. It was great to be back!

The event started on the Saturday but I managed to get there for only the Sunday.

In the pre-race sessions:

  • Shane Van Gisbergen was fastest in Practice 1
  • Shane Van Gisbergen was also fastest in Practice 2
  • Andre Heimgartner was fastest in Qualifying

In Race 18 Andre Heimgartner started on pole position with Brodie Kostecki alongside him.

At the start of the race Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown went into turn 1 in 1st and 2nd place. The pole sitter Andre Heimgartner had dropped from 1st to 5th place after a bad start off the line.

Cameron Hill made a blinder of a start. He had made up 4 spots after starting 8th on the grid.

The cars further back in the pack were dicing for positions outside the top 10 while the leading cars held their positions.

The 2 Erebus Camaros were out in front and controlling proceedings early on.

Brodie Kostecki had half a second lead over Will Brown by lap 2.

Shane Van Gisbergen was also making way and gained 2 spots after starting in 20th on the grid.

Jack le Brocq in 5th place was soon under assault from Andre Heimgartner after he lost his pole position. However, instead of gaining a spot he lost his own spot to James Golding who snuck by him.

The leaders were comfortable out front while the cars behind were chasing them. This was probably the cause of Jack Smith in car 4 receiving a bad sportsmanship flag for exceeding track limits.

The first car to pit was Anton de Pasquale on lap 11.

James Golding was again on the move and got up the inside of Cameron Hill at turn 2 for 5th place.

Chaz Mostert also tried to go around the outside of Cameron Hill, but he couldn’t make the move stick.

Cameron Hill was being a cork in the bottle he was holding up the cars behind him.

After Anton de Pasquale completed his pitstop he came back out in 25th position.

A lap later Chaz Mostert finally got past Cameron Hill at turn 1 and Will Davison got up the inside of Andre Heimgartner for 8th place.

Shane Van Gisbergen then got up the inside of Scott Pye to move into 12th place. The defending champion Shane Van Gisbergen had gained 8 places since the start.

By lap 13 Scott Pye had dropped back to 22nd position and chose to make his first pit stop and rethink strategy.

Cameron Hill pitted on lap 14 along with James Courtney and Thomas Randle.

By lap 17 of 51 the top 13 cars were still yet to take their stops.

Will Brown was the first of the front runners to pit followed by Will Davison, Cameron Waters and Jack le Brocq.

Shane Van Gisbergen also pitted a lap later, lap 18.

Soon after Todd Hazelwood and James Courtney received bad sportsmanship flags for exceeding track limits.

It wasn’t over for Todd Hazelwood. He received a pit lane drive thru penalty for a refuelling breach on his first stop.

In the middle of the race Andre Heimgartner had assumed the race lead while frontrunners were pitting. Soon he went into the pits handing the lead over to Brodie Kostecki who was followed by Cameron Waters and Will Brown in 3rd place.

On lap 32 David Reynolds went off the track between turns 9 and 10. He hit the wall and the stricken Ford Mustang wouldn’t move. The Safety car was deployed while they removed car #26.

The race restarted on lap 39. Chaz Mostert soon made a pass of Jack le Brocq to move into 4th place and only 0.748 seconds behind Will Brown in 3rd.

Shane Van Gisbergen was up to 6th place and looking for further gains. As the race got closer to the finish he was on the charge and managed to pass Jack le Brocq. Shane Van Gisbergen was now only 1.144 seconds from the back of the podium.

On lap 42 Shane Van Gisbergen showed just how much he wanted that podium finish and did the fastest lap of the race, 130.064.

By the final 10 laps the top 5 places had not changed but quite spread out. Brodie Kostecki had a good lead and was on target for his first win since the Melbourne Grand Prix in March.

On lap 44 Declan Fraser received a bad sportsmanship flag for exceeding track limits.

James Golding managed to go around the outside of James Courtney at turn 8 with 7 laps to go.

With 2 laps to go Chaz Mostert was up 7 places after starting 9th on the grid. Shane Van Gisbergen was behind in 3rd having moved up from a start of 20th on the grid.

However, the gaps between the top 3 couldn’t be closed. In the end Brodie Kostecki crossed the finish line with a 7 second margin over Chaz Mostert.  Shane Van Gisbergen was a further 10.479 seconds behind.

A post race penalty was issued to Shane Van Gisbergen for contact with Will Brown so unfortunately Shane was recorded in 7th place on the final results. Will Brown inherited the podium finish in 3rd. Credit is still owed to Shane Van Gisbergen for a phenomenal drive.

Results for Race 18

1st Brodie Kostecki – Erebus Motorsport
2nd Chaz Mostert – Walkinshaw Andretti United
3rd Will Brown – Erebus Motorsport

Shane Van Gisbergen was fastest in Qualifying for Race 19 and earned pole position bringing his career pole total to 48. I would love for him to get another 2 more and reach a half century before he leaves Supercars at the end of this season.

Andre Heimgartner sat alongside Shane Van Gisbergen on the starting grid.

As they took off Andre Heimgartner got the jump and led into turn 1 for the first of 36 laps. Shane Van Gisbergen and Broc Feeney were in 2nd and 3rd.

Will Brown and David Reynolds made contact and left the track. As they rejoined they were now in 24th and 25th place. Race control immediately put the incident under investigation. It took a while but they declared no penalties would be issued.

Shane Van Gisbergen was soon closing in on the back of the leader Andre Heimgartner. Broc Feeney in 3rd was followed by Brodie Kostecki.

Chaz Mostert had moved up 5 places into 11th after starting 16th on the grid.

On the second lap James Golding and Thomas Randle made contact. Although they kept going the officials were investigating the incident and later issued time penalties to both drivers.

On lap 4 Shane Van Gisbergen took the race lead off Andre Heimgartner at turn 6.

Just to make a statement, Shane Van Gisbergen then did the fastest lap of the race 131.993.

The first car to pit was Broc Feeney from 4th place on lap 16. When he came back out he was in 24th place.

The front runners were tightly packed. Shane Van Gisbergen was still the leader with a 1 second gap over Andre Heimgartner. Then it was only 0.968 of a second back to Brodie Kostecki.

Further back in the running Declan Fraser received a bad sportsmanship flag for exceeding track limits.

Then Will Brown and Macauley Jones received a bad sportsmanship flag for the same reason.

By the middle of the race Shane Van Gisbergen was in a commanding position with a 6.7 second lead over Andre Heimgartner. The front runners were yet to pit. Andre Heimgartner was the first to make his stop from 2nd place.

Shane Van Gisbergen took his stop towards the end of the race and returned to the track in 7th place. He must have known he was in great shape because the 6 cars in front still had to take their pit stops so he would naturally assume the lead when they did.

One by one they peeled off the track for the mandatory pit stop leaving Shane Van Gisbergen back in the number 1 spot with a 3 second lead over Andre Heimgartner. It was then 1.4 seconds back to Broc Feeney in 3rd place.

As the race was coming to its conclusion Shane Van Gisbergen was showing his authority and seemed uncatchable as he edged ahead.

After his incident on lap 2 Thomas Randle was in trouble again but this time only receiving a bad sportsmanship flag for exceeding track limits.

James Courtney was next in line for a bad sportsmanship flag for exceeding track limits.

In a surprise on the last lap Anton de Pasquale passed Broc Feeney for 3rd place. Broc Feeney had no time to make it up. Anton de Pasquale took the podium finish in 3rd. Andre Heimgartner had finished 10.4 seconds earlier in 2nd place with Shane Van Gisbergen taking the chequered flag 5.5 clear of him.

It was a spectacular finish for SVG and I’m so glad I was at the track on that day!

Results for Race 19

1st Shane Van Gisbergen – Red Bull Ampol Racing
2nd Andre Heimgartner – Brad Jones Racing
3rd Anton de Pasquale – Shell V Power Racing Team

Brodie Kostecki still leads the championship by 41 points over his teammate Will Brown. Shane Van Gisbergen is only 54 points off the championship lead and Broc Feeney is 4th with 57 points off the championship lead. With 5 events remaining the championship title could be any of these great drivers.

The next event is the OTR Supersprint at the Bend on 18 – 20 August 2023.

Beaurepairs Sydney Supernight 2022

Hi to all you Supercars Fans around the world!

On the 4th to 6th March was the Beaurepairs Sydney Supernight. It was the first event the 2022 Supercars Championship. It’s great to see the Supercars back. Lets hope we don’t get a repeat of last year and there are no Covid interruptions to the events calendar.

It was great to see Riana Crehan returning the Fox broadcast as pit lane reporter. She spent last year working in Super Bikes. Charli Robinson hands back the mic after filling in for her. It is a shame to see Charli  leave. Both women are great reporters. I wish we could have them both at Fox.

Mark Winterbottom’s slipped past a personal milestone. This weekend was his 561st and 562nd race in Supercars.

Nathan Prendagast head of TV at Supercars is leaving in June to take skill set to an international level. He has been with Supercars for 18 years and has only missed 3 events in that time. A sure sign of his dedication.  

TV BOSS TO LEAVE SUPERCARS – Auto Action

In the pre-race sessions:

  • Anton de Pasquale was fastest in Practice 1
  • Chaz Mostert was fastest in Practice 2
  • Anton de Pasquale was fastest in Qualifying and the Top Ten Shootout.

In race 1 Anton de Pasquale started on pole position alongside him was defending champion, Shane Van Gisbergen.

Anton de Pasquale led into turn 1. Shane Van Gisbergen hot on his tail tried to get up the inside between turns 2 and 3 but couldn’t manage to find the space.

David Reynolds ran wide onto the grass between turns 4 and 5. The cars further back in the pack were trying to keep up with the leaders.

On lap 8 Scott Pye had another power steering drama like he had in the last race for 2021 at Bathurst.  He was able to drive back to the pits but moments after pulling up the car caught FIRE! Scott Pye jumped out of the car so quick. If he had been that fast at the start line he would be in the lead. LOL. But truly, glad no one was hurt. Unfortunately, he was out of the race. The only one to receive an NC (Not Complete).

Meanwhile in the middle of the pack drivers were still battling for position. Thomas Randle found the space to get down the inside of car 56 driven by Jake Kostecki. Cameron Waters also found the opportunity to pass Nick Percat.

In the early stages Shane Van Gisbergen was running 2nd to Pasquale. He was on a 3 stop strategy compared to everybody else who did the 2 mandatory stops. By the middle of the race he picked the right time to pass Anton de Pasquale for the lead.

With every lap Shane Van Gisbergen seemed to be edging further ahead. He was looking strong and confident. It seemed if he could make it to the end of the race without error he was sure to win.

The defending champion held his place and continued to increase his lead. It was soon obvious he was out of reach from other drivers.

In spectacular form he continued to increase the gap from the others. By the time he crossed the finish line he nearly had a 20 second lead. It was an incredible win for him.

Next across the line was Anton de Pasquale followed by the other fast driver on the day, Chaz Mostert.

Results for Race 1

1st Shane Van Gisbergen – Red Bull Ampol Racing.
2nd Anton de Pasquale – Shell V-Power Racing Team.
3rd Chaz Mostert – Walkinshaw Andretti United.

For the second race of the weekend, Chaz Mostert was fastest in the Qualifying session which meant he was on provisional pole position. That is to say, he had the advantage to be the last driver for the Top 10 Shootout.

However, it was Brodie Kostecki who earned pole position for Race 2. His maiden pole in Supercars. Alongside him was Anton de Pasquale.

Shane Van Gisbergen was 21st on the grid due to getting held up by other cars in Qualifying.

At the start of the race Anton de Pasquale lead the opening laps with Brodie Kostecki right behind him.

The cars further back in the pack were jostling for position. Chaz Mostert had gained 2 places, 7th to 5th and Shane Van Gisbergen went from 21st to 15th.

While Shane Van Gisbergen was aggressively marching forward, he ran wide and left the track. He didn’t realise until later that he had a puncture. The tyre change cost him valuable time. On return from the pits he was 1.6 laps down. A big blow for the defending champ.

By the middle of the race Chaz Mostert was affectively the leader after moving up from 5th to 1st with 3 cars in front who were still yet to pit.

The speed that Chaz Mostert showed at end of last season to win the Bathurst 1000 was still there. From the moment he had the lead to the end of the race he held position to the finish line. He was over 3 seconds ahead of Brodie Kostecki, followed by Anton de Pasquale.

Defending champion, Shane Van Gisbergen who was 1.6 laps down in the early stages, made an amazing recovery to finish 6th! OMG!

2nd Brodie Kostecki – Boost Mobile Racing.
3rd Anton de Pasquale – Shell V-Power Racing Team.

Chaz Mostert is now the championship leader by 12 points. The first time in his career to earn the right to display the orange (leader) numbers on his car. Congratulations!

The next event is the Ned Whiskey Tasmania Supersprint on March 25th to the 27th 2022.

BP Ultimate Sydney Supersrint 2021

Hi to all you Supercars Fans around the world!

On the weekend of the 13th and 14th of November, 2021 was the BP Ultimate Sydney Supersprint. This is the 3rd of 4 back-to-back events at Sydney Motorsports Park.

Before I get stuck into the race review the hot news is Greg Murphy and Richie Stanaway will not be competing at the upcoming Repco Bathurst 1000, due to the travel restrictions in New Zealand.

It was also announced Luke Youlden who has been filling in for David Reynolds will not be driving the #26 Penrite Racing Mustang in the next event to take place at Sydney Motorsports Park. It looked like it could be Matt Campbell but a new announcement on November 18 (today) stated David Reynolds has complied with all COVID vaccination protocols for Supercars and NSW Health. Kelly Grove Racing are very pleased at Reynolds return for the last race before the Bathurst 1000.

In the preliminary sessions it was once again Anton de Pasquale who dominated in much the same way he has for the last three events.

Anton de Pasquale was fastest in Practice 1 and 2, as well as the Armor All Qualifying for race 26 and 27.

Before race 26 Sienna Crompton who is the daughter of commentator Neil Crompton sang the National Anthem. She also   waved the green flag for the cars to go off on their warm up lap. Her dad was proud as punch and not the only one in the room to have tears well up.

With the warm up lap out of the way it was time for Anton de Pasquale to take pole position on the grid for Race 26. Alongside him was Jamie Whincup.

As the race started Anton de Pasquale took the lead into turn 1.Jamie Whincup was trying to not make contact with Will Davison’s challenge from third place and put him in the wall.

Further back in the pack there was contact between James Courtney, car 44 and Tim Slade, car 3. Tim Slade ran wide on the exit of turn 1 almost assisting James Courtney into the fence but somehow staying off the wall himself to re-join the race.

Pretty soon the cars further back in the pack pitted because they were being held up.

The leaders stayed out to maintain their places up the front.

After most of the cars had pitted one thing didn’t change and that was Anton de Pasquale in position 1.

Jamie Whincup had a phenomenal pit stop, 3.6 seconds.

Towards the end of the race the first safety car was deployed to remove car number 2 of Bryce Fullwood at the exit of turn 2.

The interruption didn’t change the result. Anton de Pasquale crossed the finish line just under 2 seconds ahead of Shane Van Gisbergen in second place. Rookie, Will Brown was a further 1.5337 seconds later in third place.

Results for 26

3rd Will Brown – Erebus Motorsport.

In race 27 Anton de Pasquale started on pole position, alongside him was his teammate Will Davison.Anton de Pasquale led into turn 1. Will Davison stayed high and wide on the outside on the run up to turn 2.

The two Shell V-Power Racing cars almost side swiped each other coming into turn 2. Jamie Whincup took advantage and got up the inside of Will Brown.

Coming out of turn 3 Anton de Pasquale was in the lead of the race. Will Brown was trying to regain his position from Jamie Whincup and on the run down to turn 4 they  had a bump., Will Brown tried again at turn 5 but couldn’t get the pass made.

Meanwhile Chaz Mostert got up the inside of Will Brown going into turn 5 but couldn’t make it stick.

Brodie Kostecki tried to get up the inside of Scott Pye as they were all trying to catch  Shane Van Gisbergergen, who has been the pace setter in 2021.

Anton de Pasquale had a 3/4 second gap over Will Davison, Jamie Whincup and Will Brown.

The cars further back in the pack were settling down into their race pace.

It was an intense first lap!

Later the cars further back came in to pit early to try get clear trackbut the car up front stayed out longer.

By  the middle of the race everybody had completed their pit stops. Anton de Pasquale was still unchallenged for his lead.

Anton de Pasquale held his position all the way to the finish line. His quick pace increasing the gap to 6+ seconds over Jamie Whincup. Shane Van Gisbergen came in third place an additional 3.8653 seconds later.

In Race 28 Jamie Whincup started on pole position which was his 92nd career pole in Supercars. Alongside him was his teammate Shane Van Gisbergen.

Off the start Jamie Whincup got the jump and led into turn 1.

During the opening stages the leaders kept pulling ahead.

The drivers further back were in a tight pack. They were getting frustrated with the lack of space to move so one by one peeled off into the pits hoping to find clear track.

When Will Brown rejoined after his pit stop he managed to undercut Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen in their battle for first place. Jamie Whincup was compromised with well-worn tyres and couldn’t catch him. Team manager, Mark Dutton told Jamie Whincup to let Shane Van Gisbergen through (with his fresher tyres) to chase down Will Brown. Not for the first time, Jamie Whincup disobeyed team orders and the rookie, Will Brown earned his first win in Supercars.

1st Will Brown – Erebus Racing.
2nd Jamie Whincup – Red Bull Ampol Racing Team.
3rd Shane Van Gisbergen – Red Bull Ampol Racing Team.

Shane Van Gisbergen still leads the championship by 337 points over teammate Jamie Whincup.

Red Bull Ampol Racing leads the teams championship by 915 points over Shell V-Power Racing.

The next event is the Beaurepairs Sydney Supernight on the 19th to 21st of November, 2021.

It’s the last race before the BIG ONE. The BATHURST 1000. Yippee!!!!!

Armor All Sydney Supernight 2021

On the weekend of the 6th and 7th of November, 2021 was the Armor all Sydney Supernight.

The weekend was made up of 3 races, 32 laps each at the Sydney Motorsport Park (Eastern Creek Raceway).

The Triple Eight team hit a massive milestone this weekend with their 250th round start. Congratulations!

In the Pre-race sessions:

  • Anton de Pasquale was fastest in Practice 1.
  • Anton de Pasquale was also fastest in Practice 2.
  • Will Brown was fastest in Armour All Qualifying.

Anton de Pasquale didn’t compete in Qualifying because he was unable to change gears. That meant the Dick Johnson Racing Team had to change the transaxle for car 11 before he start of Race 23. It also meant car 11 had to start race from the 26th position (i.e. the back of the grid).

Will Brown started on pole position. Alongside him was 7 time Supercars champion, Jamie Whincup with series leader, Shane Van Gisbergen behind him.

As the race got underway Will Brown got the jump and led into turn 1, but he had Jamie Whincup all over him. Whincup threatened to pass several times but couldn’t find the way through so Will Brown kept the race lead for the opening laps. The cars further back struggled to put up any challenge.

Shane Van Gisbergern was racing well keeping up with the leaders.

Will Davison lost a few places off the start and on the run down to turn 3.

This week the opening laps were a lot calmer.

The cars further back in the pack were getting bogged down so they decided to come in early to get clear track. Anton de Pasquale chose to stay out longer to move further up the order. The leaders also stayed out to keep their places.

Later when Will Brown came in for what should have been a 3 to 4 second stop, but due to the fingers coming out of the wheel nut it was a 28 second stop! Athough Jamie Whincup was in 4th he was now the effective race leader.

As the rest of the leaders pitted, Whincup looked to have the race in the bag. With only 7 laps to go Shane Van Gisbergen passed Jamie Whincup and took the race lead.

From that point on Gisbergen was on fire and kept increasing the gap between him and his rivals. By the time he crossed the finish line he had 17+ second lead over Jamie Whincup in second place and 24+ seconds over Will Davison in third place.

It was an incredible performance from the season leader, Shane Van Gisbergen and it earned him his 13th win for the year.

Results for Race 23

1st Shane Van Gisbergen – Red Bull Ampol Racing Team.

3rd Will Davison – Shell V-Power Racing Team.

In Race 24 Anton de Pasquale started on pole position. Alongside him was the series leader Shane Van Gisbergen.

As the race got underway Anton de Pasquale led into turn 1 leaving the cars behind him desperately  trying keep up.

As the pit stops began with the cars further back in the pack looking to get clear track while Anton de Pasquale stayed out linger n the lead of the race .

Jamie Whincup was running in the top 10 early on but then, in the middle of the race he had to make a 2nd pit stop due to a puncture after running over the curb at turn 3. It cost valuable time and he dropped 16 places.

Anton de Pasquale kept edging ahead proving difficult to catch even by series leader, Shane Van Gisbergen in second place. He managed to cross the finish line 8.304 seconds ahead of his closest rival and 17.5043 seconds ahead of James Courtney in 3rd place.

Anton de Pasquale has been absolutely nailing it in these last few events. With these results I am sure he will be closely watched next season.

Results for Race24

1st Anton de Pasquale – Shell V-Power Racing Team.

3rd James Courtney – Boost Mobile Racing.

Before race 25 got underway there was lighting, thunder and rain. The track was drenched sending teams into panic with last second changes to car and tyre setup.

Shane Van Gisbergen started on pole position with Anton de Pasquale alongside him.

Bryce Fullwood jumped the gun before the start and went from 8th on the grid to first. It didnt last long, at the second corner Jamie Whincup reclaimed the lead. Later the officials awarded Fullwood a pit lane penalty for the jumped start.

The two Boost Mobile cars of James Courtney and Brodie Kostecki made contact on the first lap and left the track. They were both buried in the tyre barrier. As a result the first safety car was deployed and even through the cars were damaged they were able to drive back to the pits but couldn’t rejoin the race.

On the restart the rain was bucketing down. Shane Van Gisbergen passed Anton de Pasquale before the control line (which you are not allowed to do). Shane Van Gisbergen got on the radio and told the team that ‘Anton slowed down’. A replay of the footage from Fox Sports showed Anton had not slowed. The officials awarded Shane Van Gisbergen a Drive Through Penalty but later rescinded after reviewing data from the cars.

Regardless of the illegal pass, Shane Van Gisbergen left the track on the next corner so he lost time and position.

The wet conditions worsened but Jamie Whincup kept his lead.

With 7 laps to go the red flag came out and the race didn’t get restarted. They called it as it was. The amazing thing about the race was Chaz Mostert in 3rd place. He started 26th on the grid.

Bunnings trade sydney supernight 2021

Hi to all you Supercars Fans around the world!

On Friday the 29th to the 31th of October, 2021 was the Bunnings Trade Sydney Supernight.

This was the first of four back to back events scheduled for the Sydney Motorsport Park (Eastern Creek Raceway). This was made possible due to the removal of many COVID-19 restricts being lifted in NSW.

However, commentator Mark Larkham (one of my favourites) was not at the track because of boarder restrictions in Queensland. So he was stranded with the banana benders for this event.

Mark Winterbottom hit a milestone. This was his 550th Supercars race.

Heading into the event the Red Bull Ampol Racing Team were at the top of the Teams Ladder. The team’s 2 drivers also are at the top of the Championship; Shane Van Gisbergen with a solid lead at the top of the ladder followed by teammate, Jamie Whincup in second place.

In the pre-race sessions Anton de Pasquale dominated with amazing results:

  • Fastest in Practice 1
  • Fastest in Practice 2
  • Fastest in the Armour All Qualifying
  • and the Armour All Top Ten Shootout
  • He also started in Pole Position for all 3 races at this event.

In race 20 Anton de Pasquale started on pole position. Alongside him was Will Brown.

As the race got underway Will Brown was giving the pole sitter something to think about. He duelled with Anton de Pasquale into turn 1 and then again at turn 2. However, Anton de Pasquale held place and Will Brown had to tuck back in behind him.

At the back of the pack Jack Smith in position 19 stalled car 4 off the start line and immediately dropped back to 24th, last place.

Jamie Whincup also had a poor start and dropped to 9th off after starting 8th.

On the exit of turn 3 Will Davison was on the outside, ran wide and did some lawn mowing on the grass dropping a few places on the first lap.

Shane Van Gisbergen made up 3 spots on the first lap to run 3rd.

Shortly after Anton de Pasquale slid out and lost some time allowing Will Brown to catch up, sitting right on his tail.

Chaz Mostert was battling with Will Davison for positions 6 and 7.

David Reynolds came in early because he was getting held up.

Fabian Coulthard and Andre Heimgartner both started the race in the middle of the pack and also chose to pit early to get some clear track.

The leaders decided to stay out to keep track position.

On lap 16 Anton de Pasquale in position 1 and Will Brown came in at the same time.  Will Brown’s luck changed and his stop was delayed because the right rear wheel nut came lose. He lost so much time he rejoined the race in 21st place.

In the middle of the race James Courtney in car 44 got a bad sportsmanship flag for track limits at turn 5.

Meanwhile Jamie Whincup was trying to get further up the order but just couldn’t find the space.

In the closing laps Shane Van Gisbergen in second place was giving Anton de Pasquale a very hard time. I would imagine that it would have been quite daunting for Anton de Pasquale to have the series leader right in your face, but credit to him he held his nerve and managed to cross the line first. It was a spectacular finish.

Results for Race 20:

1st Anton de Pasquale – Dick Johnson Racing.

2nd Shane Van Gisbergen – Red Bull Ampol Racing Team.

3rd Brodie Kostecki – Erebus Motorsort.

In race 21 yet again Anton de Pasquale started on pole position. This time alongside him was teammate Will Davison.

Anton de Pasquale stalled on the start line and dropped back through the field at a rate of knots.

Will Davison took the lead into turn 1 and the cars further back in the pack settled into their race rhythm.

Anton de Pasquale was caught back in 7th place. I was surprised at his poor start considering how he had dominated the weekend so far.

Up until the first pit stop I thought Will Davison was going win his first race since Bathurst 2016, but that didn’t happen.

He had Shane Van Gisbergen on his tail and they came in to the pits at the same time. Shane Van Gisbergen did a 3 tyre change and Will Davison did 4 tyres. Will Davison’s dash was blank and they had to recycle through the electricals so he was stationary a lot longer than he would have liked.

As a result, Shane Van Gisbergen re-joined the race in the lead.

From that point on Will Davison and Anton de Pasquale were on the attack and putting pressure on the leader.

Shane Van Gisbergen is no rookie and didn’t crack under the pressure. He simply just increased his lead and crossed the finish line 2+ seconds over his rivals. This was his 12th win for 2021.

Anton de Pasquale had bad luck in this race. Although he finished 3rd it was soon revealed in his pit stop the team put the wrong tyres on. They belonged to his teammate , Will Davison so Poor Pasquale was disqualified after the race finish.

1st Shane Van Gisbergen – Red Bull Ampol Racing team.

2nd Will Davison – Dick Johnson Racing.

3rd Nick Percat – Brad Jones Racing.

For the third time in three races on the weekend, Anton de Pasquale started on pole position. Alongside him was rookie, Will Brown.

As Race 22 got underway Anton de Pasquale led into turn 1 with Will Brown close behind. The cars further back in the pack soon settled into their race pace.

Shortly after Shane Van Gisbergen jumped the goat, Jamie Whincup.

Andre Heimgartner was back in the pack getting held up so he choose to get out of the traffic and pit early.

Before the pit stops started I thought at one stage Will Brown was going to take the lead. But Anton de Pasquale was having a great weekend and not about to let the rookie take his number one spot.

Shane Van Gisbergen kept his lead over teammate Jamie Whincup and it was only mid race when he made a mistake that Whincup could reclaim his 3rd place.

Nearing the end of the race Will Brown once again challenging for the lead but that didn’t happen and Anton de Pasqale won.

It was an incredible performance by Anton de Pasquale. He started on pole position for all 3 races and won 2 out of 3. That is not bad going. Congrats Anton!

Red Rooster Sydney Supersprint 2017

Hi to all you V8 Supercars fans around the world!

On the weekend of the 18th to the 20th of August 2017 was the Red Rooster Sydney Supersprint.

This was a great weekend of racing at the Sydney Motorsport Raceway (Eastern Creek) because I’m a Sydneysider and was able to attend. Alongside me in Pole Position was my Dad (bless him for getting the wheelchair accessible van for the weekend, navigating and supporting me in my V8 Supercars passion).

We also had my Support Worker and friend, Sam join us for the Friday practice sessions. It was Sam’s first race event and he really got into it. He spent the day running around like a made chook filming and photographing the on and off track action. This was later edited along with my own footage and photos for my youtube channel and Facebook fan page.

Before the practice started on Friday we walked and talked our way through the pit viewing area. The ‘Dunlop Promo Girls’ past us going the other way. To our surprise Sam broke conversation and in split second reflex spun around, whipped out his ……er um ….phone and was filming as he followed them. Dad and I just burst into hysterical laughter. We knew we found the right man for the job of cam man and were going to have a great day.

There are plenty of other stories to tell but that would take all day. Following is a quick summary of the on-track action for the weekend.

The qualifying session for race 17 was exciting. Yet again, Scott McLaughlin won the pole position. That’s the 7th time in a row!. Not only that but he broke the Supercar record for the fastest lap around the Eastern Creek track.

It was also a first for both Alex Rullo and Simona de Silvestro to race at this track.

So as I mentioned, Scott McLaughlin started on pole position for race 17. Alongside him was mark Winterbottom.

At the start of the 31 lap race Mark Winterbottom got the jump and led into turn 1.

Will Davison spun at turn 1 sending him to the back of the field. As a result of his incredible spin he had to pit early due to the massive flat spot on all 4 tyres.  Meanwhile, Jamie Whincup moved up from 5th to 4th.

At the early stage of the race, Fabian Coulthard tried to stay on the rear bumpers of the leaders but couldn’t quite hang on. They were just too quick and pulled away.

Will Davison had to come into pits earlier than expected. It was later revealed he was having engine problems.

Craig Lowndes started in 10th position and went from 10th straight to 9th and was now moving up trying to catch the cars in front of him.

In the middle of the race the Vodafone safety car was deployed due to Todd Kelly’s tyre exploding.

On restart the leaders were bumping which wasn’t ideal.

Later towards the end of the race Scott McLaughlin had the living nightmare of all drivers. He was in the lead but got spun by Shane Van Gisbergen. It was so late in the race that by the time they recovered Scott McLaughlin ended up finishing 21st. A far cry from his pole position. Shane Van Gisbergen also dropped 20 places from his start position and finished 23rd.

Due to this there was an unexpected change in the race leaders. They stayed in sequence to the chequered flag. Fabian Coulthard, Chaz Mostert (singing the ‘Banana Boat Song’ at the top of voice; Day-o, Da-ay-ay O…) and then Jamie Whincup .

In race 18 Scott McLaughlin started on pole position yet again. This claimed his 13th pole position for 2017. Alongside him was Chaz Mostert.

At the start of the Scott McLaughlin got swamped and he went from pole back to 5th which was caused by him bogging down getting off the start line. It didn’t impress the Championship leader at all.

The mistake by Scott McLaughlin paid Chaz Mostert with the lead.

Craig Lowndes got called in by engineer, John McGregor (aka ‘Irish’) because the team suspected he had a tyre going down, which wasn’t the case at all. It wasn’t a bad mistake because on rejoining the race he was in the clear with no cars in front or behind him.  Unfortunately, his troubles weren’t over and was soon back in the pits for an unscheduled stop.  His car was off song and it turned out it dropped a cylinder from 8 to 7.

When Dad and I heard the team Vortex boys restart Craig’s car we knew that it was off song. Craig Lowndes said himself that he was very disappointed about being parked in the garage. But there is nothing he could do about it.   

Todd Kelly was trying to get passed Simona De Silvestro.

In the middle of the race Shane Van Gisbergen got told by his engineer, Grant Mcpherson to let Jamie Whincup go, which he did.

Towards the end of the race Fabian Coulthard said to Phil Keed, “Keep the information coming”.

He responded with, “There are 5 laps to go. You need to pass Gizzy to come 2nd “.

Fabian’s response was, “Well that’s OBVIOUS”.

Mark Skaife said that’s the best line of the weekend. And Neil Crompton said we will give that a run later in the week.

In the thrilling final moments of the race Fabian Coulthard passed Shane Van Gisbergen to break the hopes of 888 cleaning up with 1st and second position.

Close behind Scott McLaughlin and Chaz Mostert were in very close pursuit for the 3rd position. They were just split seconds apart.

Jamie Whincup made it look all too easy coming across the finish line first over 9 seconds ahead of Fabian Coulthard, followed by Shane Van Gisbergen another 3 seconds later.

This gives Jamie Whincup his 106th career win. He humbly talked it down but it beats the record currently held by Craig Lowndes. Whincup wil go down in V8Supercars history.

Sydney Motorsport Park Eastern Creek – Post Race 2016

Hi to all you V8 Supercars fans around the world.

On the weekend of the 26th – 28th August 2016 was the Red Rooster Sydney Supersprint.

This weekend started for Dad and I on the Wednesday when Dad picked up an accessible car from Freedom Motors. Then we booked in to the Atura Hotel in Blacktown NSW, where we stayed the weekend.

On the Friday we arrived early to watch all the practice races and meet up with the drivers and their crews to get our photos taken. Eddy Mostert, who has become a friend of ours started stirring me up early about the Ford and Holden competition, then Tim Edwards joined in and this continued all weekend. Lucky they have thick skins… Hahaha…

On the Saturday Dad and I had the fortune of meeting Craig Lowndes new wife Lara and she told me that Craig had spoken fondly of us. Dad and I were impressed that he remembered us, as so many people love and follow Craig. Before the race started Lara gave us the final 2 Grid Walk passes (Thank you Lara), this gave us an opportunity to get more photos with the cars before the race started.

In race 18 Chaz Mostert started on pole position alongside him was Shane Van Gisbergen of the 31 lap race.

On lap 1 Chaz Mostert got the jump and led through turns 1, 2 and 3 but then he ran wide approaching turn 4 which resulted in him going nearly off the track and on to the grass. Which meant that Shane Van Gisbergen took the race lead. Jamie Whincup had passed Scott Pye at the same corner and then after he had passed him, he then passed Chaz Mostert to move in to 2nd spot. Also Chaz Mostert was under pressure from Scott Pye.

In the middle of the race Jamie Whincup made his pit stop and he re-joined behind his teammate Craig Lowndes then Scott McLaughlin got passed by Jamie Whincup at turn 6.

Towards the end of the race the 2 Red Bull cars battling for the race lead and the race win, coming up in fifth place was Craig Lowndes.

In race 19 we are looking for Jamie Whincup to finally get his 100th chamionshop win.

Chaz Mostert started on pole position alongside him was Shane Van Gisbergen for the 51 lap race. On lap 1 Craig Lowndes went from 4th to 1st by turn 1, Mark Winterbottom locked up his front right tyre. Scott McLaughlin nearly ran right off the track on the exit of turn 1.

In the middle of the race Jamie Whincup nearly hit the back of Craig Lowndes entering the pit lane.

Towards the end of the race Jamie got a bad sportsmanship flag for all 4 wheels over the yellow line on the exit of turn 5, but managed to hold on to take the race win and become the 2nd driver to join the 100 club. Congratulations Jamie.

Sydney Motorsport Park – Eastern Creek Raceway Post Race Report

On the weekend of the 21st – 23rd August 2015, was the Sydney Motorsport Park Supersprint – Eastern Creek.

Dad and I arrived at the Alpha Hotel on the Thursday afternoon to get ready for the weekends race. We arrived at the track early on the Friday morning as I didn’t want to miss a thing. Just after lunch dad and I were at the back of the Triple 888 garage, when the Navy helicopter came down too low and all the debris went flying. James Courtney got hurt in the ribs also got a punched lung. We were very lucky not to get hit by anything flying around. Mum sent dad a text message on the Saturday saying that Roland Dane mentioned me in an interview that was in the Saturday Telegraph…

Staying in a hotel across the road from the track meant Dad and I were at the track very early each day and one of the first in to the event.

Race 21

In race 21 Chaz Mostert started on pole position alongside him was Mark Winterbottom, and on lap 1, Chaz Mostert got the jump for the first of 16 Laps. Chaz Mostert tried to make a pass on his teammate Mark Winterbottom, but he had drop back in behind Tim Slade and he passed Will Davison. Towards the end of the opening lap Garth Tander passed Ash Walsh. On lap 2 the 2 Pepsi Max Crew Fords were leading the race, David Reynolds was trying to pass Jamie Whincup to make it a Ford 1, 2 and 3 but could not be done. Craig Lowndes did his best to try and pass David Reynolds, in the middle of the race and no one could catch Chaz Mostert. In the end it was Ford finished 1 and 2.

Before the race I was able to get photos with Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes, Mark Dutton, Jamies engineer Roland Dane, head of Red Bull Racing, James Warburton, CEO of V8 Supercars Fabain Coulthard and Brad Jones. I was also invited to get photos of Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup’s 2 Red Bull cars, we got a grid walk before race 1 and I also got photos with Dean Canto, Grant McPherson Craig’s Race Engineer, Barry Hay from Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport. Garry Rogers from Wilson Security racing GRM, Chad Neylon commentator for V8 radio station.

1st – Chaz Mostert – Pepsi Max Crew.

Race 22

In race 22 Chaz Mostert started from pole position alongside him was Jamie Whincup. Jamie Whincup led into turn 1 for the first time, Fabain Coulthard was 2nd at turn 1. Scott Pye and James Moffat Fabain was right behind Whincup towards the end of the first lap Rick Kelly and Jason Bright both ran wide on the exit of turn 8 . On lap 2 David Reynolds was chasing down Shane Van Gisbergen. Inbetween turns 2 and 3, Todd Kelly had to go into the garage to fix the Nissan Altama car 7. In the middle of the race Jamie had a broken exhaust pipe, in the end Jamie Whincup was able to hold on to the race lead. Jamie Whincup has now moved his career tally onto 92 wins, 8 behind his teammate Craig Lowndes.

Race 23

Race 23 is the big race of the weekend and Scott McLaughlin started on pole position alongside him was David Reynolds on lap 1 of 52 David made a great start, bur Scotty managed to hold the spot. Rick Kelly and Andre Heimgartner made contact on the exit of turn 1, towards the end of the opening lap Todd Kelly got spun by Garth Tander. Todd Kelly had to drive back to the pits with a left rear tyre that wasnt pointing in the right direction and he was pretty cranky about it, on lap 2, the safety car came Ash Walsh and Jack Perkins made their first stop under yellow, with a number of other cars. A lot of the drivers were slowing up in the pits before the 40 Kilometres per hour sign so that they would not have to double stack for too long. The restart was in between laps 4 and 5. Lee Holdsworth was behind Jamie Whicup at the restart, but he tried to go around him on the outside. In the middle of the race it started to rain and the 2 Red Bull cars had to double stack in the pits, to change from slick tyres to wet tyres. Towards the end of the race it was a time certain finish due to the Safety cars by just 2 laps.

The commentators Greg Rust, Neil Crompton and Chad Neylon, the pit reporters were Greg Murphy along with Riana Crehan.

Sydney Motorsport Park – Eastern Creek Raceway Pre Race Report

Next weekend is the Sydney Motorsport Park Super Sprint at Eastern Creek raceway, let’s take a look back at what happened in 2014. In race 26 Jamie Whincup started on pole position, alongside him was Scott McLaughlin.

On lap 1 of 26, Tim Slade launched off the side of David Reynolds Bottle ’O’ Falcon, which put both he and David Reynolds out of the race. On the restart Jamie Whincup was still leading the race, but then that allowed Shane Van Gisbergen to pass him and take the lead. On lap 1, Jonathon Webb got the jump off the start line and took the race lead into turn 1.

Dad and I will be there at Sydney Motorsport Park Eastern Creek for event No 8.

This Thursday, there will be 2, 60 kilometre races on the Saturday and 1, 200 Kilometre race on Sunday.

The coverage of the V8’s is on Fox Sports 5 Channel 506. The commentators will be Greg Rust and Neil Crompton, the pit reporters will Greg Murphy and Riana Crehan. This weeks is races will be 21, 22 and 23.

FYI – Greg Murphy will be driving a Ford at Eastern Creek, for the first time.
