Wilson Security 500 – Sandown 2015 Pre Race Report

Hi to all you v8 fans around the world.

On the 11th – 13th of September will be the 2015 Wilson Security Sandown 500 race, let’s take a look back at what happen in 2014.

In the first race Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell started on pole position alongside them was Shane Van Gisbergen and Jonathon Webb. On lap 1 all of the co-drivers started the race but one main driver which was David Reynolds, Taz Douglas in the Norton Nissan couldn’t re-join the race due to the fuel hose being stuck in the side of car 360. The Tekno crew had to chase the left front wheel so that it didn’t roll into the fast lane, because otherwise that would have been a drive thru penalty.

Who will win the 2015 Wilson Security Sandown 500? Will it be the defending champs in car 1 or will another combination step up?

Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell will be getting a brand new car for the 500, the Sandown event will be event 9. The race will be 500 Kilometres and 161 laps.

Can Red Bull make it 4 Sandown 500 wins in a row in 2015? Can they go back 2 back poles?

How will Marcos Ambrose and Scott Pye go at the Enduros this year? Best of luck to everybody for the upcoming event, the Wilson Security Sandown 500. The commentators 12 months ago were Neil Crompton along with Mark Skaife, the host was Mark Beretta.

Winton Victoria 2014 Pre Race

Hi guys and girls.

Let’s have a look back at 2013 when it was held in August…

During   the 23rd – 25th of August 2013 was the Winton 360 we have Races 25, 26 & 27. In Race 25 they had a 60/60 Supersprint race, which means that they drive the first 60 laps where they don’t earn any points, they then take a break and the second 60 laps is for championship points.

In race 25 Jamie Whincup started on pole position alongside him was Michael Caruso. Jamie led the field through turns 1 and 2 for the 1st of 40 laps Jamie was leading during the opening laps until he had a driveshaft fail on his car inbetween laps 9 and 10.

Jamie had to watch the rest of the 60/60 Supersprint format from the pits. In the middle of race there was a halftime break of just 15 minutes. Mark Winterbottom ran out of fuel and as a result he had to be pushed back to pitlane by his teammate Will Davison.

On the restart the Nissan teammates of James Moffat and Michael Caruso, had contact approaching turns 1 and 2.  Towards the end of race 25 James almost didn’t win his 1st race because he ran wide down at turn 10. But he held on to get Nissans first race win in V8 supercars in 21 years. The last time Nissan had won a race was way back in 1992 which was 21 years ago.

Results for race 25

1st James Moffat – Nissan motorsport
2nd Michael Caruso – Nissan motorsport.
3rd Mark Winterbottom – Pepsi Max Crew – FPR.

In race 26 Jason Bright was on pole position alongside him was Tony Dalberto, this was Tony’s first time on the front row. Jason stalled his Team BOC Holden commodore off the line.  As a result of that Mark Winterbottom led the field through turns 1 and 2.  Alex Premat went off the track in the first turn and went cross country to rejoin the pack on the other side of the turn. With Alex coming back into the pack, it appeared to cause the down fall of Jamie Whincup, Russell Ingall and Alex Davison.

There was a safety car deployed on the opening lap. While Jamie was able to limp back to pit lane for repairs to car 1 in the Red Bull Racing garage, with smoke pouring out of right front of  his Holden. While Russell Ingall was taken out of the weekend altogether with too much damage and Alex Davison was able to stay in the race as he had the least amount of damage.

Then on the restart Michael Caruso went into his garage. When Jamie rejoined he had race tape all over the front of the bonnet.  In the middle of the race Tony Dalberto passed James Courtney down at turn 12.

Towards the end of the race Mark Winterbottom was under massive amounts of pressure from Jason Bright not only for the race lead but the race win, and the top spot the Winton podium. This was Mark Winterbottoms first win at Winton…

Results for race 26

1st Mark Winterbottom – Pepsi Max Crew FPR.
2nd Jason Bright – Team BOC.
3rd James Courtney – Toll Holden racing team.

In race 27 James Courtney started on pole position alongside him was Jason Bright but Jason got off to another bad start. Then Todd Kelly in the Nissan Altima went off the road before turns 1 and 2. Todd Kelly in his Jack Daniels Nissan made contact with Jamie Whincup and this caused him to go off road into the barriers and took him out of the race for the day while Jamie was able to stay in the race. (Todd Kelly had to walk back to pitlane)

Then on lap 2 Scott Pye was hit from behind and that started the fire on the left hand side. Scott attempted to drive back to the pits but only made it to pitlane and had to abandon his car as it filled with smoke.

James Courtney lead the way on the restart as Chaz Mostert chased him down, meanwhile Craig Lowndes passed Tony Dalberto and took him from 13th place to 12th position.

Then in the middle of the race Jonathan Webb and Maro Engel came together inbetween turns 1 and 2 sending Maro off the track. Michael Caruso was battling away with Jamie Whincup.

Towards the end the race Scott McLaughlin was passed by David Reynolds. Then Rick Kelly and Mark Winterbottom came together inbetween turns 5 and 6 taking Rick out of the race taking the Jack Daniels team out of the race altogether. Jason bright had to get towed off the slippery grass. On the last lap James was being chased down by Fabain Coulthard and Chaz Mostert.

Symmons Plains Tasmania Pre Race 2014

Hi Guys and Gals of the V8 community…

Last year Dad and I attended this race and had a great time, unfortunately this year we didn’t get the opportunity, so lets have a look back at 2013.

While waiting to board our plane in Sydney, you will never guess who we came across, OK I’ll tell you, the whole Red Bull Australia team including Roland Dane and the management team. As I was sitting there waiting to board the plane, all I could do is watch in amazement as they chatted and laughed with each other, I so wanted to go over and talk to them, but Dad said their would be plenty of time for that latter. After boarding the plane, I noticed they had followed me in. What a great bunch of blokes…

On the weekend of the 5 to 7 of April 2013 was the Microsoft Office 365.
In race 3 Jamie Whincup started on pole position alongside him was Fabain Coulthard. On lap 1 Jamie got the jump off the line and beat Fabain into the turn 1 and 2. Fabain was shadowing Jamie for the 1st the part of race 3 towards the end of lap 1 Craig got bumped off the track in between turns 6 and 7 at the start of lap 2 he then got spun around by Russell Ingall who making his 221st race start. While Craig was in the pits he spun his left rear wheel. Under safety car conditions which would normally cause a pitlane drive thru penalty.
Also during the course of lap 1 Shane Van Gisbergen didn’t want to feather the throttle and Craig got passed him. A Safety car was deployed on lap 3 due to one of the Erbus E63 Mercedes Benz running wide in-between turns 2 and 3. In the middle of the race there was a halftime break of just 15 minutes and then on the restart, it was a double file rolling restart meaning that everybody had to be alongside each other for the restart. Craig started in position number 28 for part 2 of race 3. When the green flag was waved by Damien White, Jamie Was still in the lead of the race, but after the restart Fabain then took over the race lead, and held it until the end of the 50 lap race. Jamie Whincup now leads the Championship by 51 points.

Results for race 3

1st Fabain Coulthard – Brad Jones Racing
2nd Jamie Whincup – Red Bull Racing Australia,
3rd Mark Winterbottom – Pepsi Max crew FPR.

In race 4 the 2 teammates Jason Bright and Fabain Coulthard started on the front of the grid. Jason Bright got the jump on his teammate Fabain Coulthard during lap 1 Garth Tander passed Fabain to move into 2nd spot.
On lap 2 David Reynolds hit the wall on the run out of the hairpin turn 4. This caused a safety car, and as a resulted in left front corner of car 55 was just completely ruined. On the restart Jason Bright was still leading from Garth Tander and then everyone just settled down. There were no pit stops unless a car had some damage or a flat tyre. In the middle of the race Craig Lowndes had lost 2 spot to Mark Winterbottom and James Courtney, towards the end of the race James was putting a huge amount of pressure on Mark James and Scott McLaughlin made contact with each other.

Results for race 4

1st Jason Bright – Team Boc
2nd Fabain Coulthard – Lockwood Racing
3rd Jamie Whincup – Red Bull Racing Australia

In race 5 Mark Winterbottom started on pole position alongside him was Fabain Coulthard. Mark Winterbottom got the jump into turn 1 from Fabain Coulthard on lap 1. Mark held the race lead through the 1st lap and Fabain was behind until the middle of the race. On lap 2 Scott McLaughlin was sideways on entry to the pit straight, then all the cars were trying to make space for each other, there was a safety car deployed on lap 5 due to debris on the entry to the pit straight. David Reynolds was given a mechanical black flag under the safety car because he had his right front guard dangling. Russell Ingall came into the pits on lap 10 due to a flat tyre. In the middle of the race Alex Davison was battling away with Lee Holdsworth towards the end of the final race Scott Pye had a massive accident, on the restart Mark Winterbottom made a mistake by running wide at turn 4, this allowed Fabain Coulthard to go passed to get the race win.

Results for race 5

1st Fabain Coulthard – Lockwood Racing
2nd Mark Winterbottom – Pepsi Max Crew
3rd James Courtney- Toll Holden Racing Team

The 60 60 supersprint 1st came into the V8 Supercars championship in Tasmania then in Perth WA. Mark Larkham said he enjoyed watching the double file restart. Because it was something he had never ever seen in V8 Supercars racing before this year.
